Dear friends in the fight, I have been working for The ALS Association North Carolina Chapter for more than 17 years, and have never been more hopeful than I am right now. With more research than ever already resulting in one new treatment for ALS, we are getting closer by the day to more treatments and a cure. My hope is based on research and progress. The ALS Association is cur- rently funding more than 150 cutting-edge research projects in 11 different countries. There are more than 70 active clinical trials, including 27 inter- ventional trials that are in Phase 2 or 3. Researchers have discovered new genes, and global collaborations have already resulted in two new anti- sense drugs that are going into clinical trials. There is hope. This hope is possible because of the commitment of generous donors like you. While we are com- mitted to funding the top research in the world, we will also continue to serve, advocate for and empower people affected by ALS to live their lives to the fullest. Thank you for helping us do this. You are making an impact in the fight against ALS. You are giving help and hope to people living with ALS. Here are some of the ways you are making a difference when you invest in The ALS Asso- ciation North Carolina Chapter: • You are helping support the most cutting-edge ALS research around the world as well as locally in our North Carolina ALS clinics. • You are helping fund and support the multidisciplinary ALS centers in North Carolina, where people battling ALS receive the best possible care from an entire team of specialists. • You are helping fund our financial grant program, which helps families with in-home care, home modifications, assistive technology and more. Over the past three years, we have given nearly $1 million directly to people living with ALS to help with ALS-related expenses. • You are helping provide advanced power wheelchairs ($30,000+) and rollator walkers to fami- lies free of charge statewide. • You are providing caring support to people living with ALS and their families through 15 monthly support groups administered by healthcare professionals throughout the state. Thank you for your gifts of help and hope. Thank you for enabling us to advance research and take care of nearly 800 families per year. Thank you for being a vital member of our team. Thank you for making an impact as we advance with extreme urgency toward a world without ALS. We appreciate you more than you know! As we work together, we will create a world without ALS!
