Proteomic Analysis of Retrograde Signaling In ALS
Perlson, PhD, Eran
University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA

Project Summary
2005 Recipient of The Milton Safenowitz Post Doctoral Fellowship for ALS Research

The specific signals in axon transport required to maintain healthy motor neurons have yet to be fully identified. There is growing evidence that axonal abnormalities may be a key contributor of motor neuron degeneration. Eran Perlson, Ph.D. is working with mentor Erika L. F. Holzbaur, Ph.D., at the University of Pennsylvania to identify the crucial components of how axons move cellular supplies using a new approach called proteomics. Analysis of the players in the process of maintaining the motor neuron should lead to the identification of novel targets for therapeutic intervention in ALS.
