Quantitative Analysis of Molecular Motor Function and Axonal Transport in ALS

Project Summary
The investigators will fluorescently label cell components, and measure their transport rates directly with a microscope, in motor neurons that express mutant forms of SOD1. They will investigate the properties of the molecular motors themselves, how they bind to cargoes and the speeds at which they move. This should contribute to knowledge of the molecular mechanisms underlying ALS and could lead to the identification of new therapeutic targets
