Join Father Jim and a legion of ALS Supporters as we walk to raise awareness of this life-altering disease and raise funds for treatment and research.
Two route options are being offered, depending on your fitness level. The first route is a loop around Saint Michael Parish. This walk will proceed soon after gathering at the Parish. Upon completion of that loop, the second - and more challenging - hike begins. Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati would be proud!
We will walk south from St. Mike’s to the Woodland Trailhead, then along a forested trail to Boulevard Rd. Crossing over the freeway, we will walk back to the Parish though the Eastside Neighborhood, stopping at two parks along the way (Lion’s Park and Madison Scenic Park). The route totals about 3.1 miles (a good 5k!).
Thank you for helping us reach our fund raising goal! Together we can make a difference in the lives of those affected by ALS. Our team is committed to raising money to support people in our community with ALS and spread awareness of the urgency to find treatment and a cure. Please consider joining our team in the Walk to Defeat ALS® or choose a team member from the list and donate to our cause.
Also, on September 25th-Steve’s Fans from the Tacoma Walk has organized a wine tasting fundraiser in support of the Walk to Defeat ALS. You are invited to attend and any donation made to this event from a registered St Michael The Archangel team member will be applied to our team team. This event is at Uncork and Unwind, in Tumwater, on Saturday, September 25th, from 2p-4p or 4:30p-6:30p or you can attend virtually.
If you wish to participate in the wine tasting fundraising while donating to Fr Jim/Saint Michael the Archangel, just let me know by emailing me so that we can count your donation toward our goal: firstname.lastname@example.org
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
ALS can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease, yet it still costs loved ones an average of $250,000 a year to provide the care people living with ALS and their families need. Join the movement to provide help and hope today!
