The ALS Association's Akron Walk to Defeat ALS(R) virtual walk is September 12, 2021 at 9:30 am
It does not seem possible this is our sixteenth year for the Akron ALS Walk. We have seen Gretchen go through a lot of changes over these past seventeen years, diagnosed in 2004.
She has gone to Washington DC and told her story about living with ALS so that Grants are still being raised for Research, the ALS Register was started, SSDI five month waiting period was waived, and asking the House and Senate to support and cosponsor the Dormant Therapies Act.
Gretchen has also lost a lot things we take for granted. If you ask Gretchen she says ALS has taken away her DIGNITY, her INDEPENDENCE and her FUTURE. Those are three powerful words.
This is a unique year amid the Covid- 19 pandemic. To ensure the safety of TEAM GRETCHEN the walk will be virtual this year. On the bright side, this is an opportunity for our fantastic team to get creative. The walk will be on Facebook September 12, 2021.There will be an opening ceremony on The ALS Association Northern Ohio Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/ALSANorthernOhio/ [https://www.facebook.com/ALSANorthernOhio/] starting at 10 am EST. After the ceremony Gretchen is going LIVE on Facebook to start Team Gretchen's Walk to Defeat ALS! Then all of TEAM GRETCHEN will either go LIVE as individuals, or with the people you are social distancing with on Facebook. You also can prerecord a video and post it during the walk! The chapter will have a hashtag that has yet to be announced. Also, don't forget to tag Gretchen! If possible, please wear a previous year Team Gretchen t-shirt, any year will do!
We will register the same way as we always do, right here on the TEAM GRETCHEN page! Don't forget to tell your friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers to also register and make videos. We know financially this is a tough time for many, only give if you can. We want to see all your faces no matter what! We need to continue to help financially support the ALS Association even in a pandemic. Even though we are riding this Covid-19 wave, there is still a person diagnosed with ALS every 90 minutes.
Thank you for continued support. I hope your family and friends stay healthy. Let's have some TEAM GRETCHEN FUN!
