Dear Friends and Family of Kitty Hamby

The Dallas Walk to Defeat ALS is approaching once more and is set for Saturday, October 26th. Through our past donations and efforts our Texas Chapter of the ALS Association has continued to provide services and support to patients, caregivers, and their families who struggle daily with this horrible disease.  This signature fundraising event helps us to assure that local patient services, and even global research, can continue to occur in our quest for a "World without ALS".

This year’s Walk will be held at Brookhaven College, 3939 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch.  We will again have entertainment, team recognition, and team pictures. Everyone is invited and the Walk is “dog friendly” so bring Rover along. October 5th is a special date for the Hamby family because it would have been Kitty’s 75th birthday had we not lost her to ALS twelve years ago.  I’m sure she would have given up any birthday gifts she might have received to help those patients and caregivers fighting ALS as she did for so many years. We truly appreciate your past donations in Kitty’s memory and hope you will support our efforts once more.

The Hamby family would love to have you join the Walk in Kitty’s memory.  Join our team, “Kitty’s Litter of Angels.” It will be a day of fun activities for all.  Check- in will be at 9:00 AM and the Walk will start at 10:15 AM.

Why We Need Your Help

Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.

Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.

This crippling disease can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease yet it still costs loved ones an average of $200,000 a year to provide the care ALS patients need. Help make a difference and donate or join a walk today.
