We adopted the ALS Association in 2016 after learning that Zephyr co-founder, David Cabe, was diagnosed with the disease in late 2015. We called our team the Cabe’d Crusaders, named after David himself. On September 22, 2017, our dear friend and mentor passed away peacefully. We have many fond memories of David; he inspired so many of us to be the best we can be and he is greatly missed.
Recently, one of our long-time coworkers’ father was diagnosed with ALS. This makes our 2019 effort even more significant as we hope to raise even more awareness and money to help support both the cause and patients.
Through the process of becoming part of POWER Engineers in early 2018, we learned that the two companies shared many cultural similarities, including a commitment to philanthropy. We greatly appreciate the fact that POWER supports efforts like this one, across the company, based on employee experiences and interests. ALS has deeply touched our lives and the lives of some of our new colleagues. We have high hopes that our combined efforts will lead to greater support for the ALS Association and the families affected by ALS.
This year, we will again be holding our annual Luau lunch and participate in a new activity involving taking a “pie in the face” as part of the #InYourFaceALS challenge as part of the #ChallengeMe campaign. We will be designing a 2019 t-shirt to wear at the walks, featuring our Crusader superhero “mascot.” The mascot is a cartoon drawn by David years ago to support his technical team during a particularly difficult and challenging project. This mascot represents David, his spirit, sense of humor, and ability to fight, whether it was a challenging project or against ALS.
Our team consists of POWER staff along with friends and family of David Cabe.
