Why We Need Your Help
I am continuing to do better than expected. My goal is to tread water, and stay strong until something better comes along, and I will never give up! While it is true that the current numbers and prognosis are not good, advances are being made in unlocking some of the clues to this progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. Currently, 90% of ALS patients lose their battle in 2-4 years, however I am resolute and focused on quality of life and doing what I can to help others. As I start year 3, my faith remains greater than my fear.
Help be the change you want to see in the world. Microsoft has donated $1M in Azure cloud computing and technical services to the Answer ALS Program to harness the power of big data in the hopes of better understanding the disease and ultimately developing treatments. I am part of this five-year project to gather 6 billion data points each from 1,000 people with ALS. The Researchers eventually hope to differentiate distinct subtypes of ALS, paving the way for personalized treatments, and ultimately cures. Until research science generates a cure, technology is the cure. Research requires grants and donations.
While life can never be long enough, my guidepost is that every day is a gift, which is why it is called the present. I stay in the moment and have Bucket List #8 lined up this month. As a person living with ALS, continued progression is a reality I deal with each day, but I still feel very blessed. My life has been as wonderful and magical as I could have possibly dreamed.
Please come out and walk with us and/or consider a donation.
