Why We Need Your Help
Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
This crippling disease can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease yet it still costs loved ones an average of $200,000 a year to provide the care ALS patients need. Help make a difference and donate or join a walk today.
David Michael Fillman, wife to Mary and father to Katie and Emily, was diagnosed with ALS in May 2017. David is not only an beloved husband and father, but also a selfless American, serving 21 years active duty in the United States Air Force. During his time in service both active duty and as a civilian, he displayed excellence working for the Judge Advocate General and being a leader in his field. A gifted pianist, singer, and composer, David has used his gifts for music in his church and community. Over the years, he founded the Pentagon Chapel Choir, published a book of original hymns (Hymns for the Harvest), and led worship at his church and bible study. Even with new challenges, David continues to take every moment captive, compassionately and joyfully serving those around him. Throughout it all, David and his family rely on the Lord for strength and provision.
"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:16-18
Please consider supporting the Fillman family and the ALS Association as researchers seek a cure for this horrific disease. We would love for you to join our team at the National Mall on October 14th if you are able, or join as a virtual walker in our fight for a cure. There is no donation too small to make a difference. If you are unable to support the cause financially, we would appreciate your prayers for continued strength and peace.
