Paul was our brother, our father, our grandfather, our son, our nephew, and our friend. Paul's Pals is a team dedicated to raising awareness about ALS in memory of Paul LaRochelle, who in April lost his battle with ALS at the age of 63.
Paul was the oldest of 6, and leaves behind his 3 kids and 3 grand children. During his battle, Sue, his wife of 35 years passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack. Paul remained optimistic throughout the very difficult progression of his disease. He worked until he could no longer be understood on the phone and had lost the strength to navigate stairs. He declined quickly, but still participated in numerous clinical trials and was more than happy to give samples for scientists to help understand the disease, with the hope his misfortune could help others. He even agreed to donate his brain and cells to science, so researchers could continue to learn more from him after his passing.
Throughout this struggle Sue was comforted by the support of the ALS Association. Their representatives called and visited on a regular basis, providing adaptive equipment and an understanding ear. ALS is a horrible disease, not just for the patients it robs function from, but also for the family and friends that provide support during these difficult times. Please help us raise awareness, support research, and bring comfort to families facing ALS by donating to one of our team members! Thank you for helping us reach our fund raising goal! Together we can make a difference in the lives of those affected by ALS.
