Check-In and Registration
Remember, checking in, participating in our Unlock ALS activity and finding your team will take some time, so please arrive at 9:00am to ensure you have enough time before the Walk. When you arrive, you will go to the Check-in and Registration tent. People who have not yet registered can do so at the tables. You can also submit any donations in the form of cash, check or credit card at this time.
Once you are checked in, you will receive a slip of paper that indicates your individual Fundraising Recognition level. You will then go to the next tent to pick up your t-shirt (if you raised $100), flashlight (if you raised $250), cinch bag (if you raised $500) or baseball hat (if you raised $1,000), depending on your individual level of fundraising.
Next, you will visit our Unlock ALS Tent. At the Unlock ALS tent, you will select a lanyard that best represents your connection to the mission:
Yellow - I am a person with ALS
Blue - I am walking in honor of someone who has ALS
White - I've lost someone to ALS
Red - I support the cause and want to defeat ALS
Then, you will be asked to write why you want to Unlock ALS on a paper key and hang it alongside other messages of hope.
You are welcome to bring your own team signs. We will also have a station with markers, posterboard, and paint sticks (to tape to the back of your signs) for you to create your own.
How Long is the Walk?
The Walk is approximately 2.5 miles and should take about 1.5 hours to complete.
What About Parking?Free parking is available on-campus, a short walk away from our Walk to Defeat ALS area. Signs and volunteers will guide the way to open parking lots. We will have a designated area for Top Team parking and Patient Parking. Team captains of Top Teams and patients will be provided with a parking pass to gain access to this parking lot. There is handicap drop-off available (as indicated by signage).
What Should I Wear?Come in comfortable clothes and wear shoes that are comfortable for walking. Team t-shirts that celebrate your team’s spirit are encouraged! Or make Walk spook-tacular by wearing your Halloween Costume!
Will There be Food and Beverages?
Water will be provided, and you are welcome to bring your own snacks.
What Can I Bring?
You are welcome to bring:
- Dogs (please keep them on a leash, bring your own water bowl, and clean up after your furry friend)
- Snacks and other food
- Non-alcoholic beverages
- Your own team shirts, signs, etc.
- Lots of team spirit!
Please do not bring:
- Alcoholic beverages
My Team Captain Mentioned a Tent… Do We Have a Tent?
The top five teams may bring a 10”X10” tent (with a way to secure it concrete blocks or sand bags) to erect in the designated area. A table and two chairs will also be supplied to the top five teams. Check with your team captain to see if your team is one of the top five. Please do not bring additional tents, as we want to ensure the safety of our Walk participants and would be concerned about windy conditions. Tent locations will be labeled with their team name.
What if it Rains?
We are still having the Walk, rain or shine, unless weather conditions present a danger (ex. lightning, tornados). Please dress accordingly and come prepared. If we need to cancel the walk, we will notify you via email, phone, and updates on the website.
If you have any questions, please email email@example.com.

Fundraising tools at your fingertips
We've Gone Mobile!
Your fundraising has gone mobile thanks to the Walk to Defeat ALS mobile & tablet app. Now you can fundraise on the go by sending emails, monitoring your fundraising progress and updating your page.
Only participants who've raised $100 will get a t-shirt. This benefit is awarded to individuals, not teams or donors, so make sure the donations to your personal fundraising record add up!
In addition to working toward one for yourself, you should spread the word to encourage your friends, family, and coworkers to earn their very own shirt.
Make sure you become of a fan of our Chapter on Facebook to receive information about fundraising contests, shout outs to outstanding teams and walkers, and important Walk Day details!
