Why We Need Your Help
PLEASE NOTE: We are walking on Saturday, September 12th and stepping out at 10:00 a.m. from our house at 3783 Wooster Road, Rocky River, OH . As an added bonus, we are catering our after-walk lunch from Mission BBQ. Oh yes we did!
Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
This crippling disease can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease though support is bringing researchers closer to an answer. In the mean time it costs an average of $200,000 a year to provide the care for a single ALS patient's needs. Help make a difference and donate or join a walk today.
My wife, Kris, was diagnosed with ALS in April of 2012 and on Saturday, Sept 12, 2020 we will be participating in our 9th Walk to Defeat ALS; well beyond a monumental milestone for anyone with ALS.
Thank you for considering joining our team or making a donation to our team to help Kris and those currently on their ALS Journey and most importantly, to help those not yet chosen to undertake this "Journey of uncertainty"; those who will replace her and her ALS runningmates on the ALS Registry Scrolls.
Let us not forget, your donation helps the legacy of those who have journeyed before Kris, whose wishes and hopes undoubtedly included finding therapies, treatments, and a "Cure!" so others would not have to endure this horrible disease.
