Southwest Mountain Movers
This is the seventh year that we have participated in the Walk to Defeat ALS. Last year we surpassed our goals and this year we have set our goals even higher: We desperately need to raise awareness of this devastating disease in our communities, and collectively raise $12,000 towards programs, services, and equipment.
To achieve these lofty goals we will need everyone's help. Please consider joining our team for the Walk to Defeat ALS on September 23rd or, if you are unable to join us on that date, you can still help us by becoming a virtual walker, leading a virtual team, or by making your own individual donation.
Our group members can personally attest to the incredible support that has been provided to PALS (persons with ALS), their children & grandchildren, their parents and siblings, their partners and friends through the ALS Association. Your donation can help to continue this important work by providing the resources to give a wheelchair to those who can no longer walk, a voice synthesizer to those who can no longer speak, or a shower chair to those who only ask for the dignity of caring for themselves.
Why We Need Your Help
Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
This crippling disease can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease yet it still costs loved ones an average of $200,000 a year to provide the care ALS patients need. Help make a difference and donate or join a walk today.
Please give generously. THERE IS NO CURE FOR THIS HORRIBLE DISEASE. Your donation to fund research today can make a difference in our hope for a cure tomorrow.
