Thank you for helping us reach our Walk to Defeat ALS(TM) fundraising goal this year! As you know Roy has been diagnosed with ALS since 2009 and this will be our 11th year of walking on behalf of the ALS Association!!
Why We Need Your Help:
Roy continues his fight, as he is no longer able to transfer on his own and I need to help him with an electric lift. His speech is difficult to understand as his ALS advances. He needs more help with every day tasks and care. As discouraging as things can be, Roy tries to remain positive, even as we have had to face the Covid-19. The best way to describe it is that ALS has always been isolating. This virus has just been the icing on our cake!! Believe it or not, he is quite content being outside reading, getting calls from friends and family and the occasional outside visit.
As Roy's full time caregiver, I must confess to having my frustrating moments, since he needs a lot more of my attention, but I blame those times on the ALS. We go through it day by day; hour by hour. Every day there is a brand new adventure and challenge. I am able to attend our ALSA virtual support group for caregivers, from time to time, which is a big help, thanks to the ALS Association.
As we have said many times before, and every year since we became involved with this event, our walk is the main way we fight Roy's ALS. and this year is no different! We will not be having our main event in NY state, but our team will come together for a mini walk, at Frankford park, Oct 18th at 11:30 am. We will not let the Covid knock us down! It gives us some hope that maybe, with the research that the ALS Association provides, one day they will find a cure and put an end to this horrific disease. All of these things are possible because of your efforts, and the funds that are collected.
As we have said over the last eleven years... The support of our friends and and family have made such a difference in our daily lives and in the optimism we have for the future.
We hope that we will see you and your friends on Sunday, October 18th to walk with us and help us celebrate our 11th year! If you cannot attend, but will be making a donation, thanks so much for your generosity.
