In 2016, our seemingly simple lives changed forever. Ryan Tofteland, a healthy, active 36-year-old father of two, was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), or Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
It was sudden. It was shocking. It was absolutely devastating. Our family learned very quickly the true meaning of living life to the fullest. And every day since, we have been focused on how to best make family fun outpace the progression of ALS.
Ryan began this journey with a limp and has had to accept several changes in mobility. Today, he gets around by wheelchair.
But friends, this isn’t just about our story. The annual Walk to Defeat ALS® is about changing the story for many! Every 90 minutes in the U.S., a person is diagnosed with ALS. This ugly, crippling disease can strike anyone in the world at any time.
Join The RAT Pack in the Fight!
The RAT Pack (coined after Ryan’s initials) is dedicated to raising awareness about ALS and the urgent need for a cure. The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
