This is our 4th year participating in the Walk to Defeat ALS in honor of Mari Winsor, internationally renowned fitness expert, who was diagnosed with ALS in 2013.
Mari, lovingly known as the Queen of Pilates" made the Winsor Pilates workout a household name. She has trained many notable athletes and celebrities, including Miley Cyrus, Emma Stone, Dakota Johnson, and Marisa Tomei, over her 30 year career in the fitness industry.
The disease has progressed and while Mari still trains private clients, she decided to close both her Los Angeles Pilates studios this past summer.
We need your support to help those, like Mari affected by ALS. We need to find a cure to stop this disease.
For those of you have generously donated and or walked in with us in 2014, 2015, 2016 or for those visiting this page for the first time, the Winsor Pilates Team has successfully raised just under $60,000 since our first Los Angeles Walk to Defeat ALS in 2014.
We have set our 2017 goal for $25,000 and would appreciate your continued support as a walker and donor. Please donate today, join our team, and get a fabulous Team Winsor Pilates T-Shirt!
Here are some inspirational words from Mari herself:
“Just about the same time people across the world started throwing buckets of ice water over their heads, I was diagnosed with ALS. At first I thought how could this be happening to me? My life has been devoted to health and fitness. I have shared my ‘fountain of youth’ secret, Winsor Pilates, with my clients in Los Angeles as well as with those worldwide. So, I was absolutely shocked when I was diagnosed.
When I turned 60, just nine short years ago, I still felt young and healthy…until I didn't. It wasn’t overnight. The symptoms eluded me and my doctors for three years. I had a tracheostomy laaast November and can longer breathe on my own, or use my voice, arms or legs -- but I continue to fight with everything I have.”
Two years my dear friend and client Miley Cyrus joined me on stage for the warm-up and walked the 2 mile trek with me and Team Winsor Pilates. Last year, another dear friend Toni Basil, known for q980's hut song "Mickey" led the warm-up in my place with my Winsor Pilates trainers. This year Toni is back and so are my trainers and so am I.
I would love to have you join Team Winsor Pilates and walk with me, my family, my friends, and my clients, and my trainers at the 2017 Los Angeles Walk to Defeat ALS on Sunday, October 15th at Exposition Park, and help us win the fight against ALS. Why We Need Your Help
Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
This crippling disease can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease yet it still costs loved ones an average of $200,000 a year to provide the care ALS patients need. Help make a difference. Join Team Winsor Pilates and walk with us on Sunday, October 15th.
