WELCOME TO BROOKELYN'S SQUAD
My name is Brookelyn, I am 13 years old and this will be my 10th year doing the ALS walk with my team Brookelyn’s Squad.
First off I would like to tell you a little about what ALS actually is. Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
"Familial" ALS (FALS) means the disease is inherited. Only about 5 to 10% of all ALS patients appear to have genetic or inherited form of ALS. In those families, there is a 50% chance each offspring will inherit the gene mutation and may develop the disease.....
This is where my ALS story begins; when I was just 3 years old my daddy Joshua Mack was diagnosed with FALS at the age of 26. He fought a hard battle but lost his battle in November 2008, only 6 short months after being diagnose and only about a year after symptoms started. My Great-Great aunt Carolyn died at 39 from FALS; my Great-grandmother, Wanda Felde-Boyer, died at 41 from FALS; my Grandma Fawnette Mack died at 40 from FALS; my daddy, Joshua Mack died at 27 from FALS; and this past year FALS also claimed my Great Aunt Melody
I walk in memory of my Daddy, and all my other family members who life were also cut short because of this horrible disease before I even got the chance to meet them. I also walk for my future!!! I now have a 50% chance of getting FALS or passing it on to any children I may have.
So Please help me to reach my fundraising goal, All donation big or small help us to become one step closer to finding a cure!! So that I and everyone else affected by ALS or FALS can live a long, happy, and healthy life free of ALS!!!
Thank you for taking the time visiting my page and like my daddy used to always say "NEVER GIVE UP"
