Purpose.
In July of 2011, we had to say good-bye to probably the most amazing woman I will ever know, my grandmother. She was not only a beloved grandmother, but a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, aunt, sister and friend to many. She brought so much joy and laughter everywhere she went - and it was heartbreaking to see such a devistating disease, as ALS, get the best of such a strong woman in just two years. She had such a great impact on everyone she knew and loved, and words cannot explain how much she is missed everyday.
The ALS Foundation is making strides in finding the cause, and a cure, for this disease. Luna Llena, a special nickname my grandmother earned growing up (a sort of tradition for our family) seemed only right for our walk team name. Please help us in the fight, by supporting our team, Luna Llena, Walk to Defeat ALS on March 20, 2021. Donations -in any size- will not only go to help research, but also to help those who are diagnosed and thier loved ones.
What is ALS - and why we need your help.
Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
This crippling disease can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease yet it still costs loved ones an average of $200,000 a year to provide the care ALS patients need. Help make a difference and donate or join a walk today.
