Washington, DC Walk

L'Equipe de Christine

Update Oct. 16 2017

Our team L'equipe de Christine did an AMAZING job this weekend! We received the prize for the top team, since we raised more money than any other team - even though some of the teams have years of experience.  We raised nearly $43,000, even though we only got started barely 2 weeks ago!  Thanks again to all of our wonderful supporters.  Our team, led by Christine, cut the ribbon to start the walk, and led over a thousand people three times around the Washington Monument. It was a truly gratifying experience, and Christine was greatly encouraged to see such an outpouring of support for those facing this terrible disease.  Thanks again to everyone!

Update Oct. 12 2017

Christine has been incredibly enouraged by the enormous outpouring of support we've received in the last 10 days.  The donations have been rolling in, even from people we've never met before but who've heard about her cause. There are now close to 80 separate donations - all in under 10 days!  With nearly $40,000 raise so far, we're now the Number One fund raising team for Saturday's walk.  Somehow, Christine's story has struck a chord in so many people, and we're incredibly gratified.  We keep hearing how various friends are realizing how petty some of their previous grievances were, so if there is a silver lining its that a disease like this truly puts so many relatively minor problems into perspective!

So thanks again for all your amazing generosity!

Update Oct. 6 2017

We are hugely gratified that after 3 days, already over 50 people have contributed to our team! Thank you so much, everyone, for your generosity.  We've heard touching personal stories from so many who have been touched by ALS in one way or another.  One of our friends actually had 3 people close to him afflicted!  So its not as rare as you might think, which is why we need to get the word out.  Please don't hesitate to forward the email to your friends/family, as this is a fight we're carrying on for those who might, one day, be faced with the same symptoms as Christine.

Thank you for helping us reach our fund raising goal! Together we can make a difference in the lives of those affected by Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Our team is committed to raising money to support people in our community with ALS and spread awareness of the urgency to find treatment and a cure. Please consider joining our team in the Walk to Defeat ALS® or choose a team member from the list and donate to our cause.

Why We Need Your Help

Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.

Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.

This crippling disease can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease yet it still costs loved ones an average of $200,000 a year to provide the care ALS patients need. Help make a difference and donate or join a walk today.
