A little background .... ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease, is a neuromuscular disease that destroys the body's motor neurons. ALS patients gradually become paralyzed over their entire bodies, while their sensory and cognitive abilities are unaffected. The progression of ALS is hard to predict. In Mom's case, she had it about 18 months after her first symptoms appeared; some people have shorter times, and some live several years. ALS is quite rare, and the vast majority of ALS cases are "sporadic" - nobody knows why some people get it while most people don't. There are no cures and it is always terminal. There is only one treatment, which is shown to slow progress by only 3 months on average. Research is ongoing. Join us right now by selecting 'Join as a Fundraiser' or choose 'Donate' to help us reach our goal!
