Memantine Therapy in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

Enrollment Closed

Principal Investigator:  Todd Levine, MD

The Banner Good Samaritan ALS clinic is running a trial of memantine when used in combination with Rilutek.  Under the direction of Dr. Todd Levine, the trial will look at whether patients treated with the combination of drugs have a slower progression to their disease and whether certain markers found in the spinal fluid improve through this combination therapy. This will be an open label trial so there is no placebo and all patients will receive the memantine. The trial will require a baseline lumbar puncture and repeat lumbar punctures at 6 and 12 months. The trial is designed to run for 18 months.
