The Neil Brourman, M.D. ALS Research Fund Tops $1 Million for ALS Research

June 1, 2004

Driven by Dr. Neil Brourman’s quest to find a cure for ALS, The Neil Brourman, M.D. ALS Research Fund of The ALS Association (ALSA) has raised more than $1 million for ALS research, ALSA National Trustee Phyllis Brourman announced during The Greater Los Angeles Chapter’s recent Time to Care Gala at the Playboy Mansion.

More than 500 people joined to celebrate this incredible accomplishment and to honor Neil Brourman, M.D. and his family with the Greater Los Angeles Chapter’s Commitment to a Cure Award for their steadfast support in the fight against ALS. Accepting the award on behalf of her son, Neil, who was diagnosed with ALS in 1997, Phyllis Brourman and her other son, Dr. Steven Brourman, said "We will not stop until the day a cure for this devastating disease is found."

The Greater Los Angeles Chapter’s Commitment to a Cure Award recognizes Neil’s incredible sense of dedication and passion in the fight against ALS, even as he has faced his own personal battle with this disease. While ALS is taking its toll on Neil’s body, his mind remains sharp, and he remains as committed as ever to increasing ALS research funding. Neil’s passion is matched only by the commitment of his family. His parents, his brother and sister, his wife, and his children are all equally committed to supporting ALSA’s mission to find a cure for and improve living with ALS.

"The dedication of Neil and his family is truly amazing," said Gary Leo, ALSA’s President and CEO. "Instead of letting ALS stop Neil from helping others, he has brought together his family and his friends and encouraged them to join with The ALS Association as we do everything possible to win the fight against ALS. We are truly grateful to Neil and the entire Brourman family for their partnership with The ALS Association."
