The ALS Community Mourns the Passing of Former Board Member Stephen Saltzman
It is with a heavy heart that we share the sad news that Stephen H. Saltzman passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 25th. Stephen served faithfully on the Board of Trustees of The Association for over eleven years, and served as a member of the Chairman’s Council until his death.

National ALS Advocacy Day & Public Policy Conference Recap
A record number of people – 1,100 participants including 131 people living with the disease – joined forces for this year’s Public Policy Conference, holding more than 500 meetings with Members of Congress and their staff on National ALS Advocacy Day. Read more.

Walk to Defeat ALS® Boot Camp…CONTINUED
Boot Camp is comprised of 12 virtual trainings that orient new staff to The ALS Association and the Walk to Defeat ALS® during an employee’s first 8 weeks. In addition to this orientation, there are a handful of topics that are critical for new Walk staff orientation to the Walk to Defeat ALS®. It is not crucial that these session are watched within the first 8 weeks, but within the first 6 months of hire. Read more and view the schedule here.
Walk to Defeat ALS® Seminars
After completing the Boot Camp Orientation Course Series, ongoing virtual seminars will occur with varying topics related to peer-to-peer fundraising. The seminars will include industry best practices as well as case studies from the chapter network. All calls will be hosted live and like Boot Camp will be recorded, provide steps for viewers to ‘prime themselves for success,’ as well as supplemental resources. Ice Bucket Challenge Toolkit Now Available
The toolkit for the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge 2015 is now available on the Insider. The toolkit contains graphic elements for both The Association and for the broader collaborative initiative. You are welcome to use any/all of the graphics provided when promoting/hosting ALS Ice Bucket Challenge activities in your community. Read more.
Emergency Preparedness for People with ALS
It is important that people with ALS and their family members make plans
to protect themselves in the event of a disaster. This needs to be
addressed not only at home, but also when away from home, such as at
work or on vacation. Read more.
May 29 Research Webinar Summary
The Neurocollaborative is one of the major initiatives begun with funds from the Ice Bucket Challenge. It brings together the unique strengths of three research groups to drive the development of high-impact therapeutic approaches to the treatment of ALS. Read more.
New Staff and Changes on NSE Team
On June 1, Katie Cooper
joined The ALS Association’s national office as Manager, Walk to Defeat
ALS reporting to Allison Lardner, Major Market Associate. Previously,
she was Regional Director of Development at the Florida Chapter. Katie
will work remotely from New York and can be reached at
kcooper@alsa-national.org or (518) 428-4293.
Katie replaces Tracy Earll who has been appointed Manager,
Endurance Events reporting directly to Taly Fantini, Director NSE.
