We need to let people with ALS know they are not alone.  ALS affects more than nerve cells and muscles, it affects families, friends, co-workers, and communities. 

With no known cause or cure, ALS challenges the human spirit and tests the courage of everyone touched by this devastating disease.

However, we can work together to create a Community of Hope that restores dreams and builds courage.  Our community gives strength and hope to our loved ones, neighbors, and friends facing the fear and uncertainty of ALS.

Remembering Daisy:

Daisy Mae Harris, 59, of Denton, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2014.

She was born on October 7, 1954 to Ervin and Claudia Harris in Kendleton, Texas.  Daisy always saw the best in everyone, had a big compassionate heart, and loved her dear Lord Jesus Christ above all else. She received the Lord when she was twelve years old and began even then to share the Lord with all those around her.  Always a serious student, she graduated as valedictorian of her high school. Upon graduation, she moved to Houston, Texas, to study at Texas Southern University.  She left after two years to enter the work force.

It took entering into the work force for Daisy to realize her real career interest. She re-enrolled in college and graduated Cum Laude with her BA in Human Resources and Information Systems from UTD. Her work as human resources professional focused on building relationships and finding solutions to advance the goals and achievements of the organization. Some of her jobs over the years included:
• Celanese as a Human Resource Development consultant
• Marlow Industries as a Corporate Trainer
• Collin County Community College as a part-time instructor
• Texas Instruments as University Relations Coordinator
• Ericsson as New Employment Orientation Assistant and University Relations Recruiter
• DCTA as Human Resource Director

She saw every job as an assignment from the Lord. She looked forward to each new day as an opportunity to live out Christ’s life while she was working. Daisy found people to praise and pray with wherever she worked. She touched many lives, led co-workers to experience salvation, and embraced every situation as an opportunity to share Christ.

Daisy’s speaking extended beyond the workplace to every place she went:  the grocery store, places around the neighborhood, the airport, anyplace.  She always took every situation and every place as an opportunity to share something of Christ. She always gave her Lord the credit for all of her achievements and for everything she stood for, saying “Not I but Christ” (Galatians 2:20). 

Her heart was so big that everyone had a special place in it.  She was a wonderful mother and pattern to her daughter Tabitha, instilling in her many values and imparting into her a strong and lasting faith in the Lord. Daisy nurtured not only her daughter Tabitha, who cherished every moment with her, but also many, many others, both young and old. She cared for and shepherded those around her until the end, daily ministering her portion of Christ. Visitors would leave uplifted, encouraged, and refreshed. She was singing, praising, enjoying, and rejoicing until her very last minute on earth.

Daisy leaves to cherish her memory her mother, Claudia Harris; daughter, Tabitha Boykin; sisters, Christa Waddy, and Gwendolyn Harris; brothers, Irvin Harris Jr., Ricky Harris, Clyde Harris and Frederick Harris.  Her father, Ervin Harris and her sister, Zylphia Freeman, preceded her in death.
 
There will be a memorial service held on Saturday, February 22, 2014, at 4:00 P.M., in the chapel of Bill DeBerry Funeral Directors, 2025 W. University, Denton, Texas, 76201 (www.billdeberryfuneraldirectors.com). The memorial service will be followed by a dinner at the church in Denton’s meeting hall at 411 Thomas St., Denton, Texas, 76201.

Daisy wanted her memorial service to be a celebration of her life and specifically asked that everyone please wear bright colors (not black). Let us rejoice with one another and celebrate the amazingly Christ-filled woman she was.
